And so a new year begins with the news none of us wanted to hear. This announcement from Simon Toms says it all really
'Most of you will have heard the Government announcement tonight regarding the rapidly escalating situation with Covid 19 cases and increasing national mortality rates. The situation has certainly escalated at a concerning rate in Cornwall over the last week or so. Consequently, the Government have announced that we are moving into Tier 5 restrictions which means essential Travel and exercise only.
The CFSA Executive have therefore unanimously agreed this evening that all recording of fish into the Federation will be suspended from tonight until further notice and until the Tier 5 lockdown restrictions are lifted. This is similar to the situation that we had in March 2020. The suggestion at the moment is that these restrictions are likely to be in place until the end of February at the earliest.
It is entirely up to individual anglers if they still want to continue fishing dependent on whatever advice is made available from the Angling Trust We feel that as an Organisation we need to show responsibility and not encourage people to travel around the county, mix with others and potentially spread the virus. The Committee appreciate this is disappointing and far from ideal but it is at least consistent for everyone who enjoys fishing in the Federation and member clubs. Hopefully we can get back to some level of normality later in the year once the vaccine becomes widely available.'
The above has been followed by a statement from the Angling Trust as below
STATEMENT FROM THE ANGLING TRUST ON THE NATIONAL LOCKDOWN RULES IN ENGLAND
'Whilst the regulations have not yet been published we have been informed this evening by the Cabinet Office that the Government have taken the decision that fishing will not be permitted during this national lockdown period. Whilst this is disappointing news I would ask anglers, fisheries and clubs to respect these rules and the reason they have been put in place; to help save lives and support the NHS.
Individuals should not go fishing from midnight tonight (5th Jan) and clubs and fisheries should close their waters to anglers. We will be publishing more detailed guidance on specific areas like bailiffing and fishery maintenance once the Government regulations have been published.'

Some news that I hope will give everyone a bit of a lift.
Dateline 5th March 2021
The CFSA committee have unanimously agreed that, having considered the Government advice, we will be accepting fish from CFSA member clubs from the 1 April.
We appreciate that things are difficult for clubs at the moment in terms of meetings and obtaining subs from existing or new members. Therefore, we will continue to accept returns from all clubs that were CFSA members and personal members in 2020 until June when the situation and memberships will be reviewed again.
