Shore and Boat Fish Recorder: Simon Toms [email protected] 07778991603
Hi all,
Please find attached the final draft of 2021 Recorders Report which provides the CFSA summary of the 2021 angling year for posterity. It includes all of the award winners and summaries of fish recorded through the year. Well done to everyone who has won an award, there are some excellent specimens in there which are certainly worthy winners in my view.
The attached is a final draft which I have reviewed once so i would be very grateful if clubs, recorders and any interested members could also have a look to make sure your fish are summarised correctly. If there are errors please contact me by phone or messenger and I will update and issue a new version. If there are no errors I will be amazed as I am sure you can imagine it is a rather big job trying to summarise all of this especially where some awards combine fish or need additional calculations.
One thing that is clear is that angling in Cornwall is getting harder. I don’t think that is simply me and my age either, it is increasingly difficult to find specimen fish and there are plenty of reasons for this which I highlight in the opening summary. You may or may not agree but the results are there to see.
However, we all love fishing and I personally just enjoy catching fish and being out on the coast - let’s just hope our fishing fully recovers one day. Very odd times we are living in without doubt..
Cheers

Shore and boat FOM results that I have received.
Once again some desperately poor returns from this festival and I know that several people fished them. I can only assume that there was very few fish caught.
I fished the shore FOM final myself for 6 hours in good conditions - I ended up with just two mackerel the best of which was just over 10 oz ! This was frankly incredible for October and easily the worst fishing I have seen on the mark I fished at this time of year. I think others must had had an equally bad day. The good news is that things can only improve. The only other highlight from my day was two Tuna leaping clear of the water less than 10 metres off the rock.

Here is the August festival results - have to say I was really disappointed to see how few juniors registered fish
I know that Ralph puts in a lot of his own time obtaining some very good prizes for this festival and it would be good if clubs could encourage their members to support it. That said, this poor return may possibly also be down to the complete lack of mackerel, gar and scad at this time which are the species normally caught by juniors in this month.
However, well done to Logan Gould, ECC Ports SAC, Talan Brewer of Mevagissey SAC and Ashton Niles of ECC Ports SAC for all winning their respective age categories for boat and shore awards. Prizes will hopefully be with you in the new Year if we are able to meet.
A very big well done to Sue Rule of Camborne AA who captured some excellent specimens in August winning the ladies shore Festival with an excellent pouting of 1 lb 12 oz. Sue also had a remarkable LSD of 3 lb 14 oz but due to the one day specimen weights this wasn’t the winning fish. Jasmine Williams also of Camborne AA also had the runners up spot with a Cuckoo Wrasse of just over 13 oz.
